The back of the coin depicts the springbok, a type of gazelle native to South Africa, also shown on the Gold Krugerrand coin. Reverse inscriptions include ‘South Africa’ in English and Afrikaans, along with the year of issue and the denomination of ‘1R’ for 1 Rand.
