Coins from 1941-1949, before the Shah created his self-portrait, featured instead a bold inscription in Persian.

Reverse

The reverse of the Iran Gold Pahlavi features a lion brandishing a sword with the crown so closely associated with the Shah above him. Below is an inscription, and a large wreath lines the area from the bottom of the coin up to the sides of the lion.
