Full Description

The 2015 Australian Silver 1 oz. Goat coin is the second in Perth Mint’s Lunar Series featuring animals from the Chinese Lunar calendar. The Silver Goat was limited to a mintage of 300,000 and features a unique and fascinating design, ideal for numismatic collectors. Investors choose this Australian bullion coin for its purity of .999 fine silver, its intrinsic value and its status as a sovereign coin backed by the Australian government.

Obverse

The obverse design is an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II created by famed sculptor Ian Rank Broadley. Broadley drew inspiration for the design from the Pistrucci portrait of George III, in which the head of the sovereign reaches to near the edges of the coin. The artists’ initials are engraved below the queen’s head. Around the coin are “Elizabeth II,” “Australia,” the weight and purity of 1 oz. .999 fine silver, the year mark of 2015, and the face value of 1 dollar.

Reverse

The Lunar Calendar goat image was created by illustrator, sculptor and Perth Mint designer Natasha Muhl and features a grouping of goats grazing in a rural Australian setting. Muhl’s detailed depiction of the goats, with its stunningly accurate portrayal of the goats’ long hair, has been praised widely as one of the best of the Lunar Series. The Chinese character for “goat” is shown above the goats, and the inscription “Year of the Goat” appears below. To the left of the goats is the Perth Mint mark “P.”
