Full Description

The U.S. Mint launched their America the Beautiful 5-oz. Silver National Parks quarter series in 2010. Each coin in the series features a National Park or National Site within the U.S. and its territories. This series marked the first time the U.S. mint had ever produced a silver bullion coin as large as 5 ounces. This America the Beautiful Gettysburg coin commemorates the Battle of Gettysburg, a major Union victory in the Civil War. With 5 troy ounces of .999 fine silver, it is an excellent investment as well as a wonderful collectors item.

The obverse shows the Flanagan portrait of George Washington, a rendition of the portrait on the circulated U.S. quarter. Above is ‘United States of America.’ To the left is the word ‘Liberty,’ and to the right is the motto ‘In God We Trust.’ Below the portrait is the face value ‘Quarter Dollar.’ The artist’s initials are engraved on the base of the portrait, as ‘JF.’

On the back of the coin, the 72nd Pennsylvania Infantry Monument takes center stage. The monument is located at Cemetery Ridge, where the Union battle line once stood. A cannon is showing in the foreground of the monument. The inscriptions on the coin include ‘Gettysburg.’ Pennsylvania,’ ‘E Pluribus Unum,’ and the year of issue.
