Full Description

A certificate attests that this 2013 $5 silver piedfort is proof quality and is authorized by the Government of Canada. The coin has been expertly struck by the Royal Canadian Mint and has a limited mintage worldwide.
THE COIN
This $5 coin is certified to be 99.99% pure silver with a weight of 31.39 grams, a diameter of 34 millimeters and was struck in the piedfort format. Designed by Jean-Louis Sirois, the coin features the iconic Silver Maple Leaf bullion design on a background of sugar maple leaves. The reverse also features a commemorative logo celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Silver Maple Leaf coin. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
Celebrating 25 Years of the Royal Canadian Mint's World-Renowned Silver Maple Leaf
When the Royal Canadian Mint introduced its first Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin in 1988, the coin's beauty and purity made it an instant success. Since that first release, the Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin has been minted annually with one troy ounce (31.1 grams) of 9999 fine silver and a face value of 5 Dollars -- the highest face value on the market for any comparable silver bullion coin.
In addition to its metal weight, purity, and face value, the coin's reverse design has consistently feature the emblematic maple leaf -- a Canadian icon that remains a favorite for collectors around the world. This coin celebrates the iconic Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin with an exciting variation on Walter Ott's traditional maple leave reverse image for this flagship Royal Canadian Mint product.
Piedfort -- A coin of substance
The word piedfort literally means strong foot in French and appeared centuries ago to mean heavy measure in minting. Today, piedfort indicates that a coin is thicker than usual. It is 99.99% pure with twice the thickness to provide the unique contrast of its added weight and substance.
