Full Description

The Morgan Silver Dollar offers stability and affordability in a precious metals collectible. When the Bland-Allison Act of 1878 made it compulsory for the U.S. Treasury go buy two to four million ounces of silver and use it for minting silver coins, a design created by George T. Morgan was chosen for the new dollars. The Morgan Dollar was minted from 1878 to 1904, and again in 1921. This .900 Fine Silver coin is a marvelous choice for collectors who admire its numismatic features. The coin offered here is certified in MS65 condition by NGC and is a common date coin.

The front of the Morgan Dollar shows Lady Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, a soft, conical cap that symbolizes liberty. Morgan chose as his model Anna Willess Williams, a woman he said had the most perfect features of any woman he had seen. Below Liberty’s head is the year, to the sides are 13 stars representing the original colonies, and above is the motto ‘E Pluribus Unum.’

The back of the coin shows an eagle with its wings outstretched. It holds in its claws arrows and an olive branch. ‘In God We Trust’ is shown in a line above the eagle, showing between its wings. Below the eagle is the face value of ‘One Dollar.’ Encircling the eagle are the words ‘United States of America.
