Full Description

The Peace Dollar was hailed as a fitting representation of the newfound peace in America after the conclusion of World War I. Yet, the design that was originally announced was not the peace dollar that now exists. The planned design had an image of a broken sword, but the American people spoke out against that design, saying that the image reminded them more of defeat. So, the sword was removed, and the rest is history. Over a million Peace Dollars were minted in 1921, its first year. As the last U.S. silver coin minted for circulation, the Peace Dollar is still a favorite of collectors around the world. This Peace Dollar is offered here in Very Good condition.

The front of the Peace Dollar depicts Lady Liberty as a goddess with windswept hair and a radiant crown. Only the head and neck of the goddess are showing, and Lady Liberty faces toward the left of the coin. Above the image is the word ‘Liberty.’ ‘In God We Trust’ and the year of the coin are also shown on the obverse.

A bald eagle stands perched on a rocky crag, facing toward a valley in the background. The rays of the sun are shown breaking over the horizon. Below the eagle is the inscription ‘Peace.’ Also on the back of the coin are ‘One Dollar,’ ‘United States of America,’ and ‘E Pluribus Unum.’
