CU $5 LIBERTY Gold Half Eagle

Available in CU (Commercial Uncirculated) condition, the $5 Liberty Gold Eagle is considered to have minimal wear, and may show a few contact marks on the higher points of the designs surface but may still contain some of its original luster.

The Liberty Gold Eagle marked the return of the Eagle to circulation, which had left in 1804 when production was ended by President Jefferson due to the general population melting down the coins for their gold, as the coin had a discrepancy between gold content and the denomination.

$5 Indian Head Gold Half Eagle (AU) 1908-1929

Indian Head $5 Gold Half Eagles were the last Half Eagles produced by the United States Mint, minted between 1908 and 1929, with production being stopped during the First World War. With the abandonment of the gold standard in 1933, multitudes of Gold Half Eagles were melted down -- much of the surviving stock was repatriated from overseas decades later.
