The generic Silver Peace Dollars were struck after the end of the First World War. These generic silver dollars illustrate the end of the world war and the beginning of a peaceful era. During the World War, bulks of silver coins were melted and sold to Britain. Britain had kept huge amounts of silver in its reserves to back up its currency, But soon Britain lost its faith in the metal and stopped purchasing silver. The Pittman Act enforced the U.S. Treasury to strike the melted coins once again to maintain the flow of the coins that have been taken out of the circulation.

The U.S. Treasury began minting the Morgan Silver Dollars, but the end of the World War demanded a new design to mark its end. The result were the Generic Silver Peace Dollars that was sculpted by Anthony De Francisci.
