  • Title: Generic Silver Peace Dollar NGC MS65

Full Description

The Silver Peace Dollars were struck after the end of the First World War. These silver dollars illustrate the end of the world war and the beginning of a peaceful era. During the World War, bulks of silver coins were melted and sold to Britain. Britain had kept huge amounts of silver in its reserves to back up its currency, Soon Britain lost its faith in the metal and stopped purchasing silver. The Pittman Act empowered the U.S. Treasury to strike the melted coins once again to maintain the flow of the coins that have been taken out of the circulation.

The U.S. Treasury began minting the Morgan Silver Dollars, but the end of the World War demanded a new design to mark its end. The result was the Silver Peace Dollars, sculpted by Anthony De Francisci. Offered here in MS65 condition as certified by NGC, these are common date coins.

The obverse of the Generic Silver Peace Dollar depicts Lady Liberty and was designed by Anthony de Francisci after that artist won a coin design competition. De Francisci modeled Lady Liberty after his own wife, lending a look of familiarity to the image. Lady Liberty is shown facing left, wearing a radiant crown.

The reverse of the coins feature a standing American Eagle clutching arrows with an olive branch below them.
