Full Description

The panda has long been a widely-recognized symbol of China. China began issuing Gold Panda bullion coins in 1982 and added the 1/20-ounce Gold Panda in 1983. The coins are beautiful representations of China’s commitment to unique design and high-quality minting. These coins may be minted at different locations within China, but Chinese coins bear no explicit mintmarks for the different mints, although there are clues for the knowledgeable collector. The 1/20-ounce Gold Pandas offered here are common date coins selected randomly from the various years the Gold Panda has been produced. These coins have a face value of 5 yuan and are backed by the Chinese government. They contain 1/20 troy ounce of .999 fine gold.

The front of the 1/20-ounce Gold Panda depicts the Temple of Heaven located in Beijing. The Temple was built in 1420. Above are Chinese characters that translate as ‘People’s Republic of China.’ Below is the year of issue.

The back of each year’s 1/20-ounce Gold Panda features a different panda image. The only exception was 2001 and 2002 which featured the same design. To the upper left of the panda is the denomination of 20 yuan. In some cases, the weight and purity are also engraved below the panda.
