Full Description

The first 24-karat (.9999) fine gold coins released by the United States Mint, the American Gold Buffalo has become a great investment opportunity and a must-have collector's item for fans of the precious metal.

Graded by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) as MS70 and given the special designation "First Strike," the coin is truly a wonderful option for investors. First Strike indicates that the coin was graded within the first 30 days of minting, guaranteeing a clear and beautiful strike upon the one-ounce 24-karat gold planchet. MS70, or Mint State 70, refers to the condition of the coin, the highest grade a coin can receive is 70; making the 2016 Gold American Buffalo a perfect condition coin!

The Obverse

Designed by James Earle Fraser in 1913 for the Buffalo Nickel, the iconic design is given new life on the 2016 Gold American Buffalo. Identical to the historic design, the front of the 24-karat gold coin features the profile of a Native American with a finely detailed braid and feather adornments. Fraser used several models to create the striking profile, and included the date to the lower left of the coin, with "Liberty" inscribed on the upper right. Fraser's initial appears below the date.

The Reverse

Shown on the back is the coin's namesake: the American Bison, or more commonly referred to as the Buffalo. Facing left in profile, the Buffalo's amazing features are captured in their entirety showing the shaggy mane, horns and noticeable hump. The design is the first of two designs used for the original Buffalo Nickel, and shows the animal on 'raised ground' as opposed to the flat surface shown on the type 2 design. Below the image, the denomination ($50), weight (1 Oz.), and purity (.9999 fine gold) are inscribed.
