Full Description

Britannia is a powerful female symbol that has represented Great Britain since the first century AD, when Rome ruled the British Isles. The Royal Mint released a gold bullion series featuring this iconic image beginning in 1987. Ten years later, in 1997, the Silver Britannia was introduced. The 2015 Silver Britannia is a popular choice for investors and an exciting option for collectors.

The front of the coin features the Ian Rank Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen wears her royal tiara and faces right. Below the neck of the figure are Broadley’s initials ‘IRB.’ Below the image is the face value of ‘2 Pounds’ and encircling the image are Elizabeth’s name and titles.

The back of the coin shows a standing image of Britannia, a female symbol of the power, strength, integrity and naval prowess of Great Britain. Britannia holds a shield in her left hand and a trident in her right. She wears a Roman helmet and a flowing gown that flutters to the left of the coin as if in a strong wind. Surrounding Britannia near the edge of the coin are her name, the year, the weight of 1 ounce and the purity of .999 Fine Silver.
