Full Description

The 2005 silver Kansas quarter is an excellent gift for novice numismatists as well as those who are more experienced with coin collecting. It is part of the US Mint’s 50 state quarter series and thus is a wonderful way to begin or advance a collection.

The coin shows both the classic image of George Washington, first president of the United States, in profile, as well as a depiction of a classic American bison and wild prairie flowers, celebrating Kansas’s role as one of the best known Great Plains states.

The coin also celebrates the fine tradition of coin-making at the United States Mint. It features the US motto, “E Plurbus Unum” and the year that Kansas was granted statehood, 1861.

Obverse:

The obverse of the coin shows both its mint date as well as a profile of George Washington, the first President of the United States.

Reverse:

The reverse of the coin depicts an American Buffalo on a wide plain. Additionally, the date of Kansas’s statehood, 1861, is shown. Finally, the reverse also depicts wildflowers which are known to grow all over the state of Kansas, making the coin almost as beautiful as the state that it commemorates.
