Full Description

With total mintage for the Proof 1998-P Silver American Eagles just lying North of 450,000, the NGC graded 1998-P Silver American Eagle in PF70 Ultra Cameo condition is of exceptional quality and uniqueness. Minted in Proof quality, the condition of the coin allows for the iconic Walking Liberty design to be showcased unlike ever before, showing the frosted image of Lady Liberty against a startlingly mirror-like background.

The coin itself is part of the Silver Eagle Bullion Coin program released by the United States Mint since 1986, and is one of the few silver bullion coins whose weight and purity is guaranteed by the U.S. Government. Containing 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver, the coin has been a favorite amongst investors of the precious metal. It's design also call the attention of avid numismatists, resurrecting the Walking Liberty design featured on the Half Dollar from 1916 until 1947.

Shown on the front of the coin is the historic Adolph A. Weinman design which was first featured on the Half Dollar over a century ago. Lady Liberty is shown walking towards the left, arm outstretch towards her destination while holding an olive branch, with the rising sun just peering over the horizon in the background. The mirror-like background give a remarkable contrast to the overall coin. The inscriptions "Liberty," "In God We Trust," and the year the coin was minted appear around the image.

On the back of the coin is a modern addition to the design which was added at the start of the series in 1986. A traditional heraldic eagle can be seen with it's arms outstretched, clutching a bundle of arrows and olive branch in its talons; with a shield at its breast and a ribbon with the inscription "E Pluribus Unum" in its beak. Surrounding the symbol are the guarantees of weight, purity and the denomination of the coin.
