Full Description

With its beautiful Adolph A. Weinman Walking Liberty design, this silver bullion coin is truly a collector’s showpiece. Offered here in Mint-State69 condition as attested to by coin grading service NGC, this 1987 coin is an Early Release featuring the NGC Brown Label.

Obverse

The obverse Adolph A. Weinman design features Lady Liberty walking towards the rays of a rising sun. An American flag is draped across her shoulders. The figure stretches her right hand forward and carries in her left arm oak and laurel branches symbolizing strength and glory. Some elements of the coin’s design, such as the head of Lady Liberty and the branches she carries are reminiscent of Weinman’s sculpture for the ‘Union Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument’ in Baltimore. The face of Lady Liberty may have been inspired by Elsie Stevens, who was likely also the model for Weinman’s Mercury Dime. Also on the obverse are the word ‘Liberty,’ the motto ‘In God We Trust,’ and the year.

Reverse

John Mercanti designed the back of the coin. It features an American eagle with wings outstretched and its body behind a striped shield. In its claws are an olive branch and a bunch of arrows. Thirteen stars shine above the eagle, which also is engraved with the weight, purity and face value of One Dollar.
