Full Description

With its beautiful Adolph A. Weinman Walking Liberty design, this silver bullion coin is truly a collector’s showpiece. Offered here in Mint-State 69 condition as attested to by coin grading service NGC, this 1987 coin is an Early Release featuring the NGC Brown Label.

On the obverse of the SAE, look for Adolph A. Weinman's Lady Liberty design. The iconic figure walks towards the rays of a rising sun. An American flag flows gracefully across her shoulder as Liberty stretches her right hand forward in a gesture of welcome. She carries in her left arm oak and laurel branches symbolizing the strength and glory of the American nation. The head of Lady Liberty and the branches she carries are refective of Weinmanare earlier work on his sculpture on Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument’ in Baltimore. Weinman likely used the same model, a woman named Elsie Stevens, for both this SAE and his mercury dime design. Also on the front of this Silver American Eagle are the word Liberty,’ the motto ‘In God We Trust,’ and the year 1987.

The back of the coin features a John Mercanti depiction of an American eagle. Its wings are spread and its body is hidden behind a striped shield. In its claws are an olive branch and a bunch of arrows. Thirteen stars are shown above the eagle, representing the original 13 American colonies. The back is also engraved with the weight, purity and face value of One Dollar.
