Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty Half Dollar features a magnificently tall Lady Liberty. Weinman was a sculptor whose enthusiasm for design and the American spirit helped him win a competition to create the design. The result was nothing less than a beautiful coin with vivid patriotic images and stunning detail. This 1942 Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollar has been certified by PCGS as a Mint State-65 specimen. Add this coin to your existing collection or start building towards a new set with this visually-appealing coin.
Obverse
The front of the coin depicts Lady Liberty walking toward a rising sun. An American flag is draped across her shoulder, and she carries branches in her left hand. Weinman wanted the iconic figure to be as tall as possible, so he placed the word ‘Liberty’ to her right rather than above her. Also on the obverse is the motto ‘In God We Trust’ and the year of issue.
Reverse
Weinman created the reverse design as well. It features an eagle standing on a rocky crag with wings held high. Also on the back of the coin is the motto ‘E Pluribus Unum,’ the denomination of ‘Half Dollar’ and the mintmark.
