The Swiss Gold 20 Francs Helvetia was first minted in 1897 at the Swiss National Mint. Times were relatively prosperous in Switzerland, and the coin symbolized the country's national identity. Also known as the ?Swiss Miss,? the Swiss Gold 20 Francs Helvetia obverse image is to Switzerland what Lady Liberty is to the U.S. Yet, during the Great Depression, this fractional gold sovereign was no longer minted. Two restrike years brought back the coin in 1947 and 1949.
