Full Description

The Silver Peace dollar was minted during the years between 1921 and 1928. It was again minted in 1934 and 1935. In a competition to find the best designs which could be emblematic of peace, designer Anthony de Francisci, came up with what we now see on the Peace Dollar. Anthony designed the Obverse side of the coin inspired by his wife Teresa de Francisci.

The Silver Peace dollar was minted after the end of first world war to symbolize peace and victory. It is also the last American Silver dollar.

THE OBVERSE:

The obverse side depicts Teresa de Francisci as Lady Liberty in radiate crown. Also it has engraved the following:

  • Liberty
  • In God we trust
  • Year of mint

THE REVERSE:

THe reverse side shows a perched eagle sitting on top of a creek with olive twigs in her talon. The eagle faces the rays of sun and the word PEACE is superimposed over the creek.

The reverse side has the following engraved:

  • UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
  • E PLURIBUS UNUM
  • ONE DOLLAR
  • PEACE
