Full Description

After World War I ended Americans were in a jubilant mood. Numismatists demanded a coin to commemorate the new era of peace. Congress complied, authorizing a new coin, and the Peace Dollar was born. The Peace Dollar captures this joyous occasion beautifully and has become a favorite of many collectors since it was first coined in 1921. Minting of the coin continued through 1928, and resumed in 1934 and 1935. Offered here in Mint State 62, this coin may have significant bag marks and reduced luster. It is a common date coin, selected randomly by GMRgold. If you desire a specific year, please mention it with your order so we may try to get you the coin you want.

Obverse

The obverse of the Silver Peace Dollar depicts Lady Liberty and was designed by Anthony de Francisci after that artist won a coin design competition. De Francisci modeled Lady Liberty after his own wife, lending a look of familiarity to the image. Lady Liberty is shown facing left, wearing a radiant crown.

Reverse

The reverse of the coins feature a standing American Eagle clutching arrows with an olive branch below them. Also on the reverse are the inscriptions ‘United States of America,’ ‘E Pluribus Unum,’ ‘and ‘One Dollar.’
