The Mexican pesos were first issued during the 1905 monetary reform. The coins bear the model of 'Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla', the Mexican hero who started the Mexican independence in September of 1810 and led to the 1910 revolution.
The Obverse:
The obverse side bears the effigy of a forward facing eagle preying on a snake, with the legend 'ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS' inscribed on it
The Reverse:
The Mexican Father of Nation Hidalgo is embossed with his left-side upfront. This side also bears the words 'DIEZ PESOS / CINCO PESOS / DOS Y MEDIO' for ten, five and 2 and a half pesos respectively. The year of its minting is also stamped along-side.
