First minted in 1986, the Silver American Eagle bullion coins features a design straight out of the pages of U.S. history: the Walking Liberty design first seen on the Half Dollar. Created by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916 for that Half Dollar that was minted until 1947, the Walking Liberty showcases a Walking Lady Liberty with a billowing American Flag draped across her shoulders, as she walked towards the left with her arm outstretched while cradling an olive branch in her other arm. The date is updated every year to reflect the modern design on the 1 oz Silver American Eagle. On the back of the coin is a more modern design, linking the past and the present together on the 1 oz Silver bullion coin. A traditional heraldic eagle can be seen, similar to the Great Seal of the United States, that was designed by John Mercanti. Around the patriotic imagery are guarantees for the coins weight and purity.
