  • Title: $5 Indian Gold Half Eagle BU Condition

Full Description

The Native American, America’s first true nobility, is featured on this $5 Indian Gold Half Eagle coin. The incused design is depressed below the level of the flat surfaces of the coin. The coin offered here in Brilliant Uncirculated BU condition is a fine example of the series with no wear, only miniscule imperfections and average to above-average eye appeal. Although the face value is $5, the intrinsic and numismatic values are much higher.

Created by sculptor Bela Lyons Pratt, the obverse design of an American Indian in full feathered headdress presents an enduring image of Native American dignity, power and wisdom. Above the Indian is the word ‘Liberty,’ while below is the year. Thirteen stars around the side edges of the coin represent the 13 original colonies.

The reverse features an American eagle holding a bundle of arrows in its talons. An olive branch curves in front of the arrows, signifying peace. Above the eagle are the words ‘United States of America.’ To the left is the motto ‘E Pluribus Unum’ and to the right is the motto ‘In God We Trust.’ Below the eagle is the face value of ‘Five Dollars.’
