Full Description

Immediately after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, talk of minting a coin with the great man’s portrait began. The Kennedy Dollar was first struck in 90% silver, but it never saw significant circulation. After massive hoarding and melting of these silver coins with higher purity, the U.S. began minting Kennedy Half Dollars in 40% Silver starting in 1965. After 1970, the Kennedy Half Dollars contained no silver at all. GMRgold now offers the 40% silver coins minted from 1965 to 1970 in $1.00 Face Value order size with low, low premiums for your silver holdings or your collecting pleasure.

Obverse

The front of the coin features Gilroy Roberts’ left-facing portrait of John F. Kennedy. Also on the obverse are the word Liberty, the motto In God We Trust, the year of issue, and the artist’s initials.

Reverse

The back of the Kennedy Half Dollar features Frank Gasparro’s rendition of the presidential shield. The image shows and American eagle spread in flight behind a striped shield. In its talons are an olive branch and a bunch of arrows. Over shining sunrays, a banner bearing the motto E Pluribus Unum waves above the eagle. Inscriptions include United States of America and Half Dollar.
