Full Description

The Gold Eagle made its debut back in 1986, and has grown in popularity ever since. These coins give a nod to Saint Gaudens' Double Eagle from 1907, by displaying a double-eagle design on the reverse. This design was considered one of the most beautiful of all the various designs on our coinage. Weight and purity are guaranteed by the United States Government; a distinction only the American Eagle bullion coins can boast!

GMRgold has the 2016 1/4 oz Gold American Eagle - 30th Anniversary PCGS MS69 to add history and distinction to your collection or investment. The quarter-ounce gold coin is a gorgeous piece of coinage legacy and has been graded by the Professional Coin Grading Service. The PCGS is the leading authority when it comes to grading, and has graded more than 30 million coins as of January 2016. Their work also comes with a guarantee of grade and authenticity that will follow the coin for its lifetime so long as it remains in its tamper-evident casing.

The meaning of the grade, according to PCGS is as follows:

MS69 - "Virtually as struck with minuscule imperfections, near full strike necessary"

(The phrase "full strike" refers to the clarity of the details on the coin. To have "full strike" means you have the most details possible for that design.)

The Obverse

The front of the coin displays Lady Liberty walking forward with her torch held high in her right hand, and an olive branch in her left. On her right side, at the bottom of the coin, stands the U.S. Capital Building.

The Reverse

Though the original double-eagle design showed a beautifully design American eagle mid flight, with similar stylized sun rays behind it with the setting sun but the current coins show a modern design originally created at the beginning of the series. Three eagles are shown on the back - a mother and her young waiting in their nest as a male eagle brings an olive branch to them.
