Full Description

In 2006, the U.S. Mint released its first .9999 Fine Gold bullion coin – the Gold Buffalo. Since that time, investors and collectors from around the world have become enamored with the coin. The 2015 Gold Buffalo 1 oz. coin presented here in a black core case has been designated by NGC as an MS69 First Day of Issue coin. With its historic James Earle Fraser design and Uncirculated condition, this Gold Buffalo is an excellent choice for collectors. Investors enjoy its superior tradability, its purity and the 1 oz. weight.

The obverse design was originally created by James Earle Fraser for the 1913 release of the “Buffalo Nickel” and features the profile of a Native American and slightly modified for the modern Gold Buffalo $50 bullion coin. Fraser’s models included three notable chiefs: Big Tree, Iron Tail and Two Moons. The only other markings on the obverse are the word Liberty, the year, and F for the designer Fraser.

Featured on the reverse is the iconic symbol of America’s past, the majestic buffalo. Inspired by Black Diamond, a bison in the New York City Zoo, the buffalo stands on a mound of dirt with its head gently bowed. The coin’s 1 oz. weight, .9999 Fine Gold purity, the $50 denomination and the motto In God We Trust are engraved below the bison, while United States of America and the motto E Pluribus Unum are featured above the buffalo.
