Full Description

Start collecting silver world coins now with this Australian Silver 1/2 oz. Goat 2015 coin. This is a sovereign coin backed by the Australian government. Coins are encapsulated in protective plastic to preserve their condition. The Lunar Series that features the goat as one of its 12 animals of the ancient Chinese Lunar Calendar, was first released with the reverse image of the mouse. The goat is the eighth animal in that series, which will be completed in 2019 with the pig.

The obverse design is an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II created by famed sculptor Ian Rank Broadley. Broadley drew inspiration for the design from the Pistrucci portrait of George III, in which the head of the sovereign reaches to near the edges of the coin. The artists’ initials are engraved below the queen’s head. Around the coin are “Elizabeth II,” “Australia,” the weight and purity of 1/2 oz. .999 fine silver, the year mark of 2015, and the face value of 50 cents.

The Lunar Calendar goat image was created by illustrator, sculptor and Perth Mint designer Natasha Muhl and features a grouping of goats grazing in a rural Australian setting. Muhl’s detailed depiction of the goats, with its stunningly accurate portrayal of the goats’ long hair, has been praised widely as one of the best of the Lunar Series. The Chinese character for “goat” is shown above the goats, and the inscription “Year of the Goat” appears below. To the left of the goats is the Perth Mint mark “P.”
