  • Metal: Silver

Full Description

With the 2014 Silver Australian Year of the Horse coin, the Perth Mint has produced a beautiful coin honoring the Chinese calendar’s magnificent horse. Each animal featured on coins of the Lunar Series represents the character of the people born in that year. The first year Australia produced the year of the horse coins was 2002. This newer 2-ounce 2014 coin has a different design, minted in 2 troy oz. of .999 Fine Silver. It is a highly sought-after coin, especially for those who are collecting Lunar coins or horse coins from around the world.

The front of the coin features a right-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, created by artists and sculptor Ian Rank Broadley. The Queen wears her royal tiara over beautifully-coiffed hair. The words ‘Elizabeth II Australia 1 oz 999 silver 2014 1 Dollar’ encircle the Queen’s image. Below the neck are the artist’s initials, IRB.

The back of the coin depicts two horses, one grazing in the foreground and one behind standing upright. The horses’ muscular bodies reflect the light, standing out against a tranquil Chinese landscape. Below the horses is the inscription ‘Year of the Horse.’ Above is the Chinese character for horse. Near the right edge of the coin is the Perth mint mark ‘P.’
