Full Description

Originally minted on the Buffalo Nickel from 1913 until 1939, the classic and beloved design has gained a bit of radiance in the modern era thanks to the creation of the Gold American Buffalo bullion coin program. Started in 2006, the original front and back design of the Buffalo Nickel shine like never before in the U.S. Mint's shiny series.

Almost a 100 years from the time it was first minted, the iconic design was featured on the American Buffalo Silver Dollar Commemorative Coin released in 2001. Now the Gold Buffalo is known as the first pure, 24-karat bullion coin released by the Mint for public distribution!

Created by American sculptor, James Earle Fraser, the talented artist featured Native Americans frequently in his art and due to his background of living on the frontier was able to depict Native American imagery in startling detail. This PCGS graded Proof Coin is available in 2014 and 2015 special edition James Earle Fraser labels! Valued at $2,300 according the the PCGS Price Guide, this coin presents an exceptional opportunity to invest in a iconic design, and valuable precious metal!

Facing right, James Earle Fraser used the profiles of sever Native American's to create his detailed portrait. Adorned with two feathers, and showing his braided hair falling over his shoulder, the artist even paid attention to include a tassel in the man's hair. "Liberty" and the Year the coin was released is shown around the profile.

It is said that in order to create the beautifully details Reverse image, showing an American Bison, James Earle Fraser used the Central Park Zoo's very own Black Diamond. Two types of Reverse designs were released into circulation when the Buffalo Nickel was first minted: the first shows the Buffalo on a raised mound and is known as the Type 1 Reverse, the second shows the animal on a flat surface and is named the Type 2. Shown on the 24-karat gold coin is the Type 1 design, surrounded by the inscriptions "United States of America," "E Pluribus Unum," "In God We Trust," the denomination, and the weight and purity of the coin.

Also Available in 2015!
