Full Description

The U.S. Mint issued coins for the First Spouse program on the same schedule as the $1 Presidential coin series. Four presidents and first spouses’ coins released every year beginning in 2007. The 2013 1/2 oz. Edith Wilson $10 gold coin was minted to honor the second wife of President Woodrow Wilson. Edith Wilson was the First Lady from 1915 till 1921. She was a great help to Woodrow Wilson, assisting him with daily tasks after he suffered a massive stroke. As a First Lady, Edith Wilson kept White House social functions simple. She was a cordial host, but didn’t hold elaborate and expensive parties. She also worked to eradicate slums in Washington, D.C. The coin honoring her contains 0.5 troy ounces of .9999 fine gold. The coin offered here has been certified as perfect mint state MS70. It is an exceptional choice for collector and investors alike.

A forward-facing portrait of Edith Wilson appears on the obverse of the gold coin. This is designed by David Westwood and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso.

Designed and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Joseph Menna, the reverse symbolizes Edith's support of her husband after his stroke. His hand is depicted resting on a cane with Edith's resting gently on top.
