Full Description

After almost 100 year since President Theodore Roosevelt commissioned world renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gardens to bring back beauty and artistry to American numismatics—their dream of a high relief double eagle design has finally been released in the 2009 Ultra-High Relief.

In making the Ultra-High Relief Gold Coins, the U.S. Mint digitally mapped the original coin plaster created by Saint-Gardens. Without the advancement in minting technology, it would not be possible to create a coin with double the thickness and smaller diameter—just as the artist envisioned so long ago. The only change made to the design are the date and number of stars on the Obverse, and the inscription “In God We Trust,” on the Reverse. Made from one-ounce of 24-karat Gold, the coins have to be struck multiple times on a very thick special planchet.

Demonstrating not only the capabilities of American minting, but also the deeply ingrained pride associated with the history of coinage in the United States the $20 2009 Ultra High Relief Gold Double Eagle PCGS MS70 is made even more valuable by the limited release Saint Gaudens Label with only 157 in Population!

Obverse

Shown on the front of the sonically sealed PCGS capsule is the limited edition Augustus Saint Gaudens Label, showing the famed artist above the pure gold coin. The coins imagery is considered to be the most beautiful in American coinage, and shows Lady Liberty in the foreground of the capital, carrying a torch and olive branch.

Reverse

The back of the coin has the original Saint Gaudens design showing a soaring eagle with the rays of the sun beaming behind the proud image.
