Full Description

The 2007 Dolley Madison First Spouse Gold Coin represented the fourth issue of the First Spouse Gold Coin Program to honor the First Ladies of the United States. It was also the final release of the year 2007. Coins were released on November 19, 2007 and limited to a maximum authorized mintage of 40,000. The coins eventually sold a combined total of 30,896 pieces. Released on the same schedule as the Presidential Dollar program, the First Spouse gold bullion coins are struck in .9999 fine gold and weigh one-half ounce and has the denomination of $10. Each coin contains .500 troy ounces of pure gold.

The Obverse

The Obverse of the coin, designed and sculpted by Don Everhart, features a portrait of the Dolley Madison, along with the term she was First Lady for and the mintage date.

The Reverse

The Reverse of the coin, designed by Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by Don Everhart, depicts Dolley Madison saving the Cabinet papers and Gilbert Stuart picture of George Washington as British troops approached the White House.
