Available at a Low Premium, the $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle is an affordable option for investors, and coin collectors alike. Valued not for its condition, the coins .0.96750 troy ounces of .900 gold provides enough incentive to make this a popular option for precious metals enthusiasts.

For the later half of the 19th century, the Double Eagle was a staple in commerce. With .9675 troy ounces of .900 gold, the coin was the most valuable coin available. The Liberty Double Eagle was first struck in 1849 as a pattern coin, which resides in the Smithsonian collection, and from 1850 to 1907 for commerce.

Shown on the Obverse of the Liberty Double Eagle is the Liberty Head designed by the 4th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint: James B. Longacre. Lady Liberty is depicted in the Greco-Roman style, facing left with her hair pulled back, with the "Liberty" inscribed cornet sitting atop her head.

On the Reverse, a heraldic eagle is shown holding a double ribbon, and clutching an olive branch and bundle of arrows in its talons. The double ribbons are an allusion created by Longacre and allude to the denomination of the coin; the first of its kind ever minted.
