Full Description

The Indian Head design was created by Bela Pratt to be incused, or depressed into the planchette, thus avoiding the issue of a small coin with a high-relief, hard-to-strike design. This coin was produced from 1908 to 1929. Offered here in Brilliant Uncirculated BU condition, this coin has no wear, only miniscule imperfections and average to above-average eye appeal. Collectors admire the Indian Head Quarter Eagle for its exotic design and fascinating history while investors choose it as a first coin or to diversify their precious metals holdings.

Obverse

Created by sculptor Bela Lyons Pratt, the obverse design of an American Indian in full feathered headdress presents an enduring image of Native American dignity, power and wisdom. Above the Indian is the word ‘Liberty,’ while below is the year. Thirteen stars around the side edges of the coin represent the 13 original colonies.

Reverse

The reverse features an American eagle holding a bundle of arrows in its talons. An olive branch curves in front of the arrows, signifying peace. Above the eagle are the words ‘United States of America.’ To the left is the motto ‘E Pluribus Unum’ and to the right is the motto ‘In God We Trust.’ Below the eagle is the face value of ‘2 1/2 Dollars.’
