Full Description

The XXVI Olympiad, known as the Centennial Olympic games, was held in Atlanta, Georgia, delighting Americans across the nation. This 1996 S Olympic Soccer Half Dollar commemorates those historic games. The coin was struck at the San Francisco Mint from copper and nickel with a pure copper core. With a Deep Cameo proof finish and a PR69 designation by coin grading service PCGS, this coin is highly tradable and a great collectors’ piece.

Obverse

Designed by engravers Clint Hansen, the front of this half-dollar coin depicts two women playing soccer. The soccer ball sits between the two women, who both appear to be moving their feet towards the ball. Also on the obverse are the five interconnected circles of the Olympics with ‘USA’ below, as well as the word ‘Liberty,’ the motto ‘In God We Trust,’ ‘Atlanta XXVI Olympiad,’ the year ‘1996’ and the initials of both the coin’s engravers.

Reverse

The back of the coin features the Olympic Committee logo and ‘100’ to denote the centennial year of 1996. Also on the reverse are the words ‘Atlanta 1996.’ ‘United States of America,’ ‘Half Dollar,’ and ‘E Pluribus Unum.’ The reverse design was created by engraver Malcolm Farley.
