Full Description

Just over 900,000 Proof 1987 Silver American Eagle bullion coins were minted in 1987. The demand for them by this second year of the U.S. Mint’s first silver bullion series was enormous, coming from both Americans and investors around the world. Now presented in Proof 69 condition as certified by NGC, this Ultra Cameo coin bears NGC’s distinctive Brown Label. The 1 oz. .999 Fine Silver bullion coin is a stable investment with potential numismatic value.

The front of the coin features a rendition of the Adolph A. Weinman Walking Liberty design. Lady Liberty walks toward the rays of a rising sun. An American flag is draped across her shoulder, and she carries branches in her left arm. Above her figure is the word ‘Liberty. Also on the obverse are the motto ‘In God We Trust’ and the year of issue.

The American Eagle is shown on the back of the coin as originally designed by John Mercanti. Its wings are outspread, with a striped shield in front. The eagle holds in its beak a ribbon with the motto E Pluribus Unum and in its talons an olive branch and a bunch of arrows. Above the eagle’s head, in a downward-pointing triangle pattern, are 13 stars representing the 13 original colonies. Above the eagle is ‘United States of America,’ and below is the weight of 1 oz. Fine Silver and the face value of one dollar.
