Full Description

1986 marked the year of the U.S. Mint’s first Silver Bullion series featuring the Silver American Eagle. With 1 troy ounce of .999 Fine Silver, the coin is the ideal weight and purity for comparisons to the spot price of silver. Finally, U.S. investors could choose an American silver bullion coin to add to their precious metals portfolios. At the same time, collectors appreciated the reappearance of Weinman’s Walking Liberty design on U.S. coins. Offered here in near-perfect MS69 condition as certified by PCGS, this coin is a delight for investors and collectors alike.

Obverse

The front of the coin features a rendition of the Adolph A. Weinman Walking Liberty design. Lady Liberty walks toward the rays of a rising sun. An American flag is draped across her shoulder, and she carries branches in her left arm. Above her figure is the word ‘Liberty. Also on the obverse are the motto ‘In God We Trust’ and the year of issue.

Reverse

The American Eagle is shown on the back of the coin as originally designed by John Mercanti. Its wings are outspread, with a striped shield in front. The eagle holds in its beak a ribbon with the motto E Pluribus Unum and in its talons an olive branch and a bunch of arrows. Above the eagle’s head, in a downward-pointing triangle pattern, are 13 stars representing the 13 original colonies. Above the eagle is ‘United States of America,’ and below is the weight of 1 oz. Fine Silver and the face value of one dollar.
