  • Metal: Silver

Full Description

American citizens and soldiers around the world faced World War II with a fierce loyalty to their country. Iconic symbols like Lady Liberty helped unite the country in patriotism. The 1943 Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollar was one of the most beautiful of those symbols. Minted from 1916 to 1947, this coin has been a favorite of collectors, particularly those interested in the historical significance of coins. Presented here in MS65 condition as certified by coin grading service PCGS, this Walking Liberty coin is among the finest specimens still remaining.

Obverse

The front of the coin depicts Lady Liberty walking toward a rising sun. An American flag is draped across her shoulder, and she carries branches in her left hand. Weinman wanted the iconic figure to be as tall as possible, so he placed the word ‘Liberty’ to her right rather than above her. Also on the obverse is the motto ‘In God We Trust’ and the year of issue.

Reverse

Weinman created the reverse design as well. It features an eagle standing on a rocky crag with wings held high. Also on the back of the coin is the motto ‘E Pluribus Unum,’ the denomination of ‘Half Dollar’ and the mintmark.
