Full Description

This Standing Liberty Quarter was minted in early 1917 and features the Type 1 design with Lady Liberty’s right breast exposed. Later in 1917, the offending breast was covered by chain mail in the Type 2 variation, which was minted from then until 1930. Early 1917 quarters are prized by collectors for this design feature that was only minted for about a year and a half. World-leading coin grading service NGC has certified this circulated 1917 Type 1 Standing Liberty Quarter as Extremely Fine with mild to moderate wear and Details showing. For investors, the attraction is .900 Fine Silver at a low premium over spot.

Obverse

Herman MacNeil, under the supervision of U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Charles E. Barber designed the Standing Liberty coin featuring Lady Liberty as a goddess holding an olive branch in one hand and brandishing a broadsword in the other. The design represented America’s ultimate goal of peace, but the country’s willingness to fight for right during World War I. The front of this quarter also features the motto ‘In God We Trvst,’ ‘Liberty’ and ‘1917.’ In this Type 1 design, Lady Liberty’s right breast shows bare.

Reverse

The back of the coin features a flying eagle. The coin also shows ‘United States’ and ‘Quarter Dollar.’
