Full Description

Buying common date coins like this 1/2-ounce Chinese Gold Panda offers gold coin collectors the possibility of completing sets of Gold Pandas without the high cost of many of the individual coins. Gold Pandas have been extremely popular on the world market since they were first struck in 1982 by the official People’s Republic of China Mint. Since the Chinese Mint has changed to the metric system, no new 1/2-ounce-Panda coins are expected to be struck in the future. In addition to their high collectors value, the .999 fine gold purity makes this coin ideal for investors as well.

Obverse

The front of the coin features a finely-detailed depiction of the famed Temple of Heaven, built in Beijing beginning in 1406 CE during the Yongle Dynasty. The Temple is a part of a large complex with both historical significance and modern park and playground amenities. This design has been repeated on each Chinese Gold Panda coin from the beginning of the program until current times. Also on the obverse are Chinese characters meaning ‘People’s Republic of China,’ and the year of issue.

Reverse

The back of each Gold Panda coin features a depiction of one or more pandas, each in a Chinese setting. Every year except for 2001/2002 features a different panda design. Also on the reverse is the face value of 200 Yuan.
